Four years ago Jeffi Horn was ready to quit doing nails in order to go to law school. But something made her change her mind. A combination of factors—including the cost of college, the difficulty in finding a good job, and her age—made Jeffi decide to stick with the nail industry-Says Jeffi, who owns The Nail Café in Encino, Calif., “When I decided to stay with the nail profession, which I had been in for almost 20 years, I chose to be everything I could be in this industry. I attached my new decision with the same vengeance that I had about going to law school.” Jeffi took classes with Tammy Taylor, learning as much from her experiences in the nail industry as she could. “She inspired me to open my salon,” says Jeffi, who with the help and support of friends custom-designed her own salon.

Recently, she redesigned he interior of the salon. “I started by handpainting my floors in a brick pattern and ragging my walls to create on outdoor café effect. I purchased a large fountain to add the soothing sound of running water,” she says. In addition to this, Jeffi had eight glass-top manicuring tables with matching glass-top toolboxes made—each station is a different color. “I still have two manicuring stations to staff and the salon will be complete,” she says.

Setting goals is important to Jeffi. She accomplished another goal when she did the nails on this month’s cover. But she isn’t stopping there; “My next goal is to develop my own line of pedicure products.” Something tells us this will not be the last we hear of Jeffi Horn.
