Colorado Facilitates Reciprocity Procedures

Colorado has made it easier for nail techs to obtain reciprocity in that state. According to Cathy Wells, program administrator for the Colorado Board of Barbers & Cosmetologies, the board previously reviewed each application individually based on training, exam, and work history. Many times, a nail tech looking to obtain a license wouldn’t qualify because Colorado wouldn’t consider her training sufficient.

Now the board will consider individuals who have worked two out of the last five years. “We won’t have to look at test scores from other states anymore,” Wells says. If the nail tech hasn’t worked two out of the last five years, the board will then look at the hours of training and testing that individual received in her respective state. She says the board decided to implement this to make it easier for individuals moving to Colorado. “It’s now a lot easier for individuals to get endorsement into Colorado, and it gives the state board more flexibility,” Wells says.
