“I want my girls to be pampered without worrying about their exposure to harsh chemicals,” says Melanie Hurley. Thus, this fall Hurley, a stay-at-home mom and former teacher, launched Piggy Paint, a line of polishes aimed at young girls.

Although there were previously child-friendly polishes on the market, Hurley found that they didn’t stick around too long. She says, “I found the  kids’ peel-off polish, well, peeled-off quickly and didn’t meet the needs of my active children.” Because the polishes are longer-lasting, the company also makes a gentle polish remover to take off Piggy Paint polishes.

According to the company, the polishes are odorless and hypoallergenic, too. They’re also free of formaldehyde, toluene, phthalates, biphenyl A, ethyl acetate, and acetone.

Both the polishes and remover are available in wholesale quantities, and as parents become more concerned about salon chemicals, using Piggy Paint in services is one way to appeal to conscious parents’ concerns.

The company’s website also has a few hints and tips for parents to use nail polish as a learning tool; these can easily be adapted for techs manicuring your salon’s youngest clients.
