In the tradition of quick, convenient on-site services like shoe-shining and barbers comes Manicube: an in-office, female-friendly mobile nail service company. Manicube’s licensed manicurists visit clients’ office buildings on a set weekly schedule to offer 15-minute manicures for $15. Appointment bookings, changes, and payments are made seamlessly online. Customers pre-pay online or at the time of service with a credit card for completely cashless transactions. All technicians come with iPads for clients to browse the latest magazines while they have their nails done.

Manicube was founded by Liz Whitman and Katina Mountanos, two Harvard Business School grads whose careers brought them to the realization that while women were an ever-growing presence in corporate America, male culture continued to dominate. They saw firsthand that getting a manicure as a working woman was a weekly chore — and they wanted to change that. “We want to make it easier for women to manage their lives,” says Mountanos. “We want them to enjoy the challenges of work. We want them to stay in the workforce longer. And we want them to look good doing it.”

For every manicure given, Manicube contributes $1 through the non-profit Kiva toward a microloan to female entrepreneurs in developing nations starting their own businesses. “Supporting these women is core to our mission of making working women’s lives easier both at home and abroad,” says Whitman.

After launching in July 2012 with just two clients, Manicube has expanded rapidly, adding new corporate clients to the roster every day. While Manicube is currently only serving offices in New York City, it will be launching in other U.S. cities in the Spring of 2013.
