Does Your Salon Have a Dress Code?

"We feel that how you present yourself is just as important as your skills," says one salon owner.

We have very strict dress code. When an employee is hired, we give her/him a copy of our dress code to comply with. We feel that how you present yourself is just as important as your skills. After all, would you respect your doctor if he or she wore jeans? We stress that you should always our yourself in your client’s shoes.

I am independent contractor and at the salon, we all have our own standards of etiquette. I think it’s important to dress professionally, and I believe that when you dress up you feel better about yourself and it determines your attitude. We also answer questions from beauty supply patron, so if we show up to work sloppily dressed, the customer may think, “You’re telling me about hair, nails, and fashion?”

Yes we do. Nail technicians are required to wear smocks that button down to the knees. The smocks are hunter green to match the salon’s decor. They can wear whatever they want underneath the smocks.

Yes, we do, and it’s fairly strict. We don’t allow casual clothes, such as jeans, and the only shorts we allow are dress shorts. Basically, staff members have to look nice for work. We’re in the process of expanding and since the salon décor will be more formal, so will our dress code.

No, we do not. But we are one of the very few salons in this area that has been around for more than 10 years. Everything you do or say reflects back on you, including what you wear.

No, because we’re artist and we need to be comfortable when working.

No, we don’t. Our nail technicians are independent contractors so they can wear whatever they want.
