How to Reprimand: Turn negative, humiliating employee reprimands into tactful, constructive criticism. several suggested approaches:

  • Give the employee an alibi for the mistake. Try the “I know you’ve had alot on your mind lately, but...” approach.

  • Take the blame yourself. “It’s probably my fault for not mentioning this sooner, but...”

  • point out the benefits that came from the mistake. “The way that this happened makes me think that we should do something about...”

The benefits of this approach, according to the experts, is a more positive and effective response to criticism.
