Hemp is one of the hottest health food trends in North America. It’s not only an ingredient in many personal care products, it can be added to food to benefit the skin.

“Hemp seed oil is an excellent natural moisturizer because it is one of nature’s richest sources of polyunsaturated fats,” says Joshua Onysko, founder and CEO of Pangea Organics, a leading organic personal care brand. “Products containing hemp seed oil are known to soothe and restore dry and damaged skin.” Products in which cosmetics companies currently use hemp seed oil as an ingredient include bar and liquid soaps, shampoos, lip balms, salves, lotions, moisturizing creams, and massage oils.

But what most people don’t know is that hemp seed oil is a delicious and nutritious food that feeds the skin  from the inside out. “Skin disorders such as psoriasis, dermatitis, eczema, and acne are all inflammatory conditions that are associated with a deficiency of Essential Fatty Acids (EFAs),” says Meghan Atkinson, a nutrition consultant based in Los Angeles. “EFAs are naturally anti-inflammatory, and hemp oil is a rich source that has the exact balanced ratio of omega-3 to omega-6 that is required by the body.”
