He’s Off and Running Again: Dal LaMagna Runs for Congress

IaMagna Rhymes with Lasagna” is an excellent campaign slogan, but unfortunately not a winning one…yet. Although Dal LaMagna, president of Glen Cove, N.Y.-based Tweezerman Corp., lost his 1996 bid for U.S. Congress, he hasn’t lost his taste for politics and he’s running again. “For a candidate who received no press endorsements, had no national party support, experienced negative local TV coverage, and suffered blistering personal attacks, we did extraordinarily well,” says LaMagna in a letter to his supporters. “Ninety-seven thousand people (43% of the votes) voted for me.” Still optimistic, LaMagna continues to heed the call to public service. He’s currently running for the post of Supervisor of Oyster Bay, and is poised for another run for Congress in 2000. This year’s slogan is “La Magna Rhymes with Good management.”

All that remains of his ’96 congressional race, says LaMagna, is campaign debts (90% of the campaign was financed from personal funds) and lost of tweezers bearing the slogan “Tweezerman for Congress.” Anyone interested in helping the campaign pay off its debts can make a contribution and receive a pair of keepsake tweezers in return—one pair for every $25 sent. Contributions can be mailed to Dal LaMagna for Congress, Campaign Headquarters, 55 Sea Cliff Ave., Glen Cove, NY 11542. Contributions must come from individuals only, not companies, and are not tax deductible, according to campaign head-quarters.
