Krista Driver

In MANI/PEDI: A True-Life Rags to Riches Story from Boat to Beauty Salon, author Krista Driver weaves together the compelling story of the evolution of the $8-billion modern nail care industry alongside the personal narrative of Vietnamese refugee Hieu “Charlie” Vo, who, along with her dear friend Olivett Robinson, beat the odds and blazed a trail, building a series of successful businesses along the way.

The book chronicles the rise of the Vietnamese nail industry while offering a captivating account of Vo’s harrowing escape from the Communist government in Vietnam — from weeks stranded at sea to years spent in refugee camps to her ultimate success as an entrepreneur. At one time, Vo owned nine nail salons across Los Angeles, and later opened her own supply company. Today she co-owns Miss Professional Nails, a family business that manufactures nail polish.
