Nail Tech’s of Nebraska, a professional association of Nebraska nail technicians led by Deanna Riddle Frakes, is lobbying state senators to introduce a bill to license nail technicians.

Nail Tech’s of Nebraska has drafted a licensing bill and has requested the legislature to do an interim study before the next legislative session, which opens in January 1994. The legislature will appoint a committee to research the fiscal impact of nail technician licensing on the state and will review other states’ nail technician licensing legislation. The committee also will hold public meetings to hear supporting and opposing arguments.

Nail Tech’s of Nebraska seeks technician support for the bill by asking that they join NTN and ask clients to sign a petition of support.

The organization says the drafted bill amends the Nebraska 1986 cosmetology act and would establish education and licensing regulations for nail technicians. The proposed bill includes a grandfather clause, which would allow technicians who have at least three months’ experience and who pass the state exam to receive a license.
