“Entering the beauty industry can be an overwhelming experience for new professionals, especially when they are not properly equipped with the right tools for the journey,” says nail tech and author Tiffani Douglas. To help new nail techs and other beauty professional navigate their careers, Douglas has written a guidebook called Straight Outta Beauty School — 10 Things You Need to Know and Do After You Graduate. The book covers a variety of practical topics ranging from understanding your career options and building your brand to the importance of record-keeping and ongoing education.

“The book is a mash up of what I have learned personally and professionally over the last 20 years,” says Douglas. “New pros must understand that the beauty industry is a business, it’s competitive, they are responsible for their own success, and they must take the initiative to implement and execute plans that will make them successful.”
