The New Jersey State Board of Cosmetology and Hairstyling has overhauled its rules and regulations. In the new regulations the board has expanded its safety and sanitation regulations outline acceptable methods for sanitizing implements and tools. The change was in response to inquiries from licensees concerning proper sanitizing methods. The new regulations prohibit permanent cosmetic application in a beauty or nail salon. The board agrees with the New Jersey Board of Medical Examiners’ formal opinion that “cosmetic tattooing involves significant risks and should be personnel and under a physician’s care.”
