The New York State Nail Technicians Association has scheduled a meeting of salon owners and manicurists for the purpose of discussing licensing in New York.

At the request of the Department of State Licensing Bureau, a bill was placed into the senate in Albany on March 18, 1986, to license nail salons and nail technicians in New York State. According to the association, licensing will be a reality in June 1987 and the bill will take effect January 1, 1988.

The association is sponsoring a meeting on June 1, 1987, at 7:30 p.m. to discuss the issue. Location of the meeting is at Nail Technology, 275 Smithtown Blvd., Nesconset, New York. All salon owners and technicians are urged to attend.

Geraldine Posa, president of the group, states, “As nail salon owners and nail technicians, we must voice our opinions. Our livelihoods are in the hands of people who have not taken time out to hear us. It is urgent, since June is only around the corner, that we hear from you as soon as possible. We must, as a group, stand together and protect what has taken us hard work to accomplish.”
