On the Road: Main Attraction Nails & Spa

Santa Monica is also home to plenty of salons and spas, perfect for those who’d rather get a massage, manicure, or pedicure instead of heading to the beach.

SANTA MONICA, CALIF — When you think of Santa Monica, Calif., images of the Pacific Ocean, beautiful sandy beaches, and the historic Santa Monica Pier come to mind. But Santa Monica is also home to plenty of salons and spas, perfect for those who’d rather get a massage, manicure, or pedicure instead of heading to the beach.

After one of our exhausting spinning classes, my friend Jenny and I decided it was time to treat ourselves to manicures and pedicures. We had both been eyeing a salon that recently opened in the area — Main Attraction Nails & Spa — and this was a perfect opportunity to stop in for some services.

Located right oil of trendy Main Street, where hipsters can be seen shopping, dining, or just hanging out, Main Attraction is owner Susan Thai’s second salon. The salon features 10 pedicure thrones and four manicure tables. Having so many pedicure thrones makes sense. Santa Monica is a beach town after all, and the weather is usually nice enough throughout the year to show off perfectly pedicured feet.

Thai’s clientele lends to be young and hip. Fashion-minded women who love the latest polish colors and nail art on their toes flock to her salon. And Main Attraction’s decor is just as trendy as its clientele, from hardwood floors and modern lighting to a quick-dry station customized to fit this busy salon.

Thai decided to open Main Attraction because clients in her original salon — Colorful Nail (located right down the street from her new location) — would constantly tell her they wished she had more pedicure thrones. Thai thought what better way to meet their requests than to open up another salon. This busy salon also makes it convenient for clients by accepting walk-ins.

Jenny and I enjoyed relaxing as we were pampered by the nail techs’ wonderful leg and arm massages. At the same time, the adjustable pedicure thrones gently massaged our backs (a welcome indulgence after a long workout). The nail techs in Thai’s salon are efficient and well-trained as they turned our overworked hands and feet into soft, beautiful extremities. By the time we left, our workout was far from our minds, thanks to Thai and her team.
