Nusta Spa is located in the heart of Washington D.C.’s business district. It received the Best Spa award from Washington City Paper in 2016, and a spot on Allure’s Best of Beauty Directory for Nails in 2015.

While I love the idea of spa nail treatments, I rarely take the time to get a seriously pampering service. Finally on a trip to Washington, D.C. I had my chance.

This chic spot is where clients relax while waiting for their appointment. Decor is modern and neutral with subtle themes of wood and water.

>I found Nusta Spa by Googling “Top 10 Nail Salons in Washington, D.C.” (A good goal to pursue for your own salon marketing!) In DC, everything seems to revolve around running the country, but the city also has a vibrant professional and commercial center, which is where the spa is located. Nusta Spa caters to working men and women who duck in from their jobs in banking, retail, and hospitality to get a soothing facial or a luxurious pedicure. Opened in 2004, Nusta Spa made history by being the world’s first LEED- certified spa.

Veteran nail tech Vicky Valera (right, with me on the left) worked at Nusta for a few years, then she ran her own salon, and then she came back. “It’s the best place for me to take care of my clients,” she explains.

>My nails are currently in a dismal post-acrylic state and needed lots of TLC. Vicky Valera, a nail tech for 23 years, took the time to examine my nails and ask me what I’ve been wearing and using on them for the past few months.

The manicure and pedicure room is comfortably appointed in neutral shades.

>The salon has several levels of manicure and pedicure services to choose from, starting with an “Essential Manicure” and moving on up to the Optimal Manicure featuring anti-aging treatment. Both manicures and pedicures also have waterless versions, using warm cream instead of water to soften the skin.

One of Nusta’s signature offerings is custom-blended massage oil for use in the spa’s body treatments.

>Reserved for Nusta’s two-hour body treatment, Body Bliss massage oils are custom blended for each client. Using the Intentional Aromatherapy app, fragrances are mixed at the bar, used in the treatment and then the client receives a small bottle for home use.
