The Organic Touch

Salon owner Megan Wilcock gets her inspiration for her shabby chic salon from her lifestyle. She’s a vegan who considers herself very environmentally conscientious — from offering homemade foot and hand scrubs (I had sweet orange.) to decorating her salon with eco-friendly items. While Wilcock knows everything can’t be organic in the nail business, she does her best to incorporate as many natural elements as possible. Not only has she used her creativity to make her salon inviting, warm, and cozy, she and her staff are the sweetest people to spend an hour with.

Artisan Marketplace

After taking over The Pampered Pinkie, the only thing kept the same — besides the comfy overstuffed floral chairs — was the boutique retail section in the front. Most of her vendors are local artists who make everything from jewelry to clothing to home decor. Wilcock stays on top of getting in new, fresh, unique items almost every week — which makes a fun pit stop for her regular clientele. She also has plans to refurbish more furniture that she can sell in the salon.

Swank Trends

Most of The Pampered Pinkie’s clients wear their nails natural, but to keep up with current trends she also offers hybrid gel-polish and Minx nail designs. The Pampered Pinkie also offers popular salon parties, where the client can bring in food, drinks, and decorations and the salon offers services. Wilcock  told me the tweens like getting mani-pedis, but they also love getting their hair blinged out with metallic hair strands.

With her creative talent the Pampered Pinkie sign was even handmade by owner Megan Wilcock (on the right in this photo with me).

> Before becoming the owner of The Pampered Pinkie, Megan Wilcock started out as the buyer for the retail portion of the salon. She was also working in a different salon as a hairstylist. (She has one hair station in her salon that accounts for about 20% of her clients.)

> All of the nail techs are employees who worked at the salon before Wilcock purchased it four years ago. She’s been lucky and has had no turnover.

> From the nail tables to the displays and even the front desk, Wilcock has refinished all of the decor in her salon. She even travels out to Los Angeles to one of the largest antique flea markets at the Rose Bowl to find some of her salon accessories.

My daughter Quinn enjoyed relaxing in the comfy overstuffed chairs while our nails dried after our pedis.
