Lucky for us LaCinda Headings and Angie Tullis entered as a team for the Educator of the Year award; otherwise, the judges would have been hard pressed to put one ahead of the other. Headings, an onychology instructor for Xenon International and an educator for Creative Nail Design Systems, has gained a tremendous reputation in the nail industry not only for her incredible skills in nail application, but in her dedication to getting well-trained and highly motivated nail technicians into the industry. Tullis has moved beyond standard manufacturer education to help build and implement Nail University on Tour (NUoT), a state board-approved program that has educated hundreds of nails technicians in the Kansas area and beyond.

Although they entered jointly, Headings and Tullis were judged separately, and then their scores were averaged. “I think that’s great, because to me it means we both must have scored pretty high,” says Headings, who can’t say enough good things about Tullis. The two have worked together on a variety of projects including NUoT, and the “Competition Primer” audiocassette, which tells prospective competitors how to prepare and what to expect. Both Headings and Tullis give their time generously to continuing education, and feel strongly about making the reputation of nail professionals the highest it can be. They’re off to a great start.
