When Sally Beauty Company CEO Michael Renzulli calls, the industry answers. Several hundred industry leaders responded to the invitation from the man known as “Mr. R.” to help celebrate 40 years in business at the formal grand opening of Sally Beauty Company’s new headquarters on March 17. Also on the agenda was Sally’s 2004 Vendor of the Year awards. On hand were representatives from the top echelons of beauty industry manufacturers (see snapshots for the gallery), as well local legend and gubernatorial candidate Kinky Friedman.

The custom-built 200,000-square-foot state-of-the-art facility is home to 500 Sally employees. Besides offices, the building has its own kitchen and staff cafeteria, a cosmetology mini-museum of beauty products collected over Sally’s 40-year history, a full-service test salon, and two “model stores,” which mimic the exact layout of Sally’s 3,000 beauty stores worldwide. The ever-expanding company outgrew its former location in just eight, and broke ground on the new building in 2003.

Each year, Sally recognizes three vendors for outstanding performance. The Vendor of the Year Awards are given to the companies that participate in Sally programs, provide outstanding merchandising support, launch new items in a timely fashion, assist in new product introduction, and meet deadlines (without back orders). This year, American International Industries (All) was one of those honored, and AII president Zvi Ryzman and vice president of sales, Mark Moesta extolled the warm relationship that exists between AII and Sally, and commented on the growth that both companies have enjoyed as a result of continuous product innovation. AII, which owns EZ Flow, Gena, ibd and GiGi, among many other brands, has won this distinction twice before.
