Here are Jennifer and JoAnna. Or is it JoAnna and Jennifer?
Jennifer and JoAnna Sciarrino are living proof of the old adage “two heads are better than one.” These 30-year-old identical twin sisters were licensed as estheticians and makeup artists by age 19, and became nail techs at 22. “We both love this industry. We didn’t waste any time,” says Jennifer, who, along with her sister, owns Derma Glow Spa in North Salem, N.Y. “JoAnna and I always wanted to open our own business and what better way to do that but with your best friend and twin sister.”
Joanna usually takes charge of the displays in the boutique area.
When asked who is better at what and how they divvy up the workload, JoAnna is diplomatic: “Both Jennifer and myself are the head estheticians, nail technicians, and makeup artists. We’re both equally talented in all aspects of the business.” As you might expect, the two are equal owners in the business and have a legal partnership agreement to prove it.

When pressed, the ladies admit to slight differences in their skillset. “Being kind of tech-savvy, I contribute to the website and marketing materials,” says Jennifer. “JoAnna does the window displays and product displays — she keeps the spa looking beautifully manicured and stocked.” In fact, her decorating talents are being put to the test as they renovate the spa in honor of its fifth anniversary.
Jennifer’s talents include a flair for web marketing.
The sisters and partners feel the many hours spent together has only made the business more prosperous. What happens on those rare occasions they don’t see eye to eye? “We don’t necessarily argue, but we might just bicker a little bit on the newest products or services to bring into the spa,” says Jennifer.
