Wall decals allow you to paint a picture with words — and when you’re tired of those words, you can remove them with minimal fuss. “Wall decals are fairly easy to apply,” says Sarah Sowa, whose Etsy shop, Vinyl Design Creations, offers both pre-designed and custom-ordered decals.

Here’s the lowdown on adding decals to your decor, according to Sowa:

> The larger they are the more difficult they are to apply.

> You can use them on any flat, smooth, non-porous surface. They can’t be used on high-gloss or highly textured surfaces.

> You can wipe the front of the vinyl with water if needed for clean up.

> They come off of walls easily and only a minor paint touch-up may be needed.

> They will stay on the wall for years until you remove them.

> They are removable, but not reusable.

Many of the decals on Sowa’s site are tailored to the beauty industry, and she also offers custom designs in an array of sizes and colors.
