Sisters Jennifer and Pauleen Tran have both worked in the nail industry for over 25 years, so when they planned to open their salon, DFW Nail Bar, in Denton, Texas, they knew they wanted to offer something out of the ordinary. That’s why they created a nail bar modeled after an actual bar, complete with free drinks, bartenders, and karaoke. “We wanted something different, so we traveled all over and went to many different salons to come up with the nail bar concept,” says Jennifer Tran. “We wanted a place where people could have a good time. Happy or sad, everyone wants a drink. At DFW Nail Bar, clients can relax, party, and sing karaoke.”
Nervous karaoke singers needn’t worry: Private rooms are soundproofed, so “you can sing whatever song you want and no one can hear you from the other rooms,” Tran explains. The 5,000-sq.-ft. salon features a large, open room with pedicure chairs and a full-service bar, a private party room, and private rooms for salon services including massages, facials, waxing, and eyelash extensions. While drinks are complimentary (and strong), there is a maximum of two per customer. As required by Texas state law, the salon has a liquor license.

DFW Nail Bar has attracted significant interest since its opening in late 2016, with many weekends fully booked. It’s popular as a venue for bridal showers, birthdays, girls’ days out, corporate events, and other parties. “By the time we were open two months, we’d already had 15 to 20 parties,” says Tran. Another source of clients is the salon’s busy, urban neighborhood, which puts lots of people within walking distance. “We even had an 85-year-old come over with a walker from a nearby independent living complex for seniors,” says Tran. “She came in and wanted a pedicure. I thought she must have been driven by someone, but she walked!”
