April Hall, a nail technician at In the Nails in Huntsville, Ala., offers an odor-fighting tip that’s cheap and easy to implement. The majority of the odor in a salon is not from the little dappen dish you have out for 10 minutes, says Hall, but from the trash receptacles that collects the nail wipes saturated with polish remover, alcohol, and acrylic liquid all day long. “To combat the odor produced by 10 nail stations, we each have a small airtight container, like a coffee can, at our workstations. We put all wipes and anything else that smells in this plastic container.” The clients love it and have even learned to ask for it, she reports.
