Cosmetology rules and regulations for the state of IIIinois have long since been written and submitted to the Department of Professional Regulations. Now, it’s a bit of down time until the bogged-down department has a chance to review them.
“You cannot rush the state,” says Patricia Johnson-Rambo, chairperson of the legislative committee of the Chicago Cosmetologists Association. Because the cosmetology division is currently under sunset review, the department is still deciding how the industry will be regulated.
To make matters worse, Johnson-Rambo says, cosmetology isn’t the only licensure under review.
“You’ve got 12 licensures being handled at the same time, including nurses, pharmacists and real state,” she reports.
