“I love numbers. Call me crazy, but they’re fun,” says Marie Soto, owner of At Your Hands & Feet inside Antwon’s Salon in Glendale, Ariz. Good thing she’s fond of figures because she’s also the owner of Soto Tax and Accounting.
“I never wanted to be in a job that would have me confined to an office pushing paper,” says Jenny Constantine, owner of a mobile nail service called Junique Nails, based in Diego Martin, Trinidad. That’s also one of the reasons behind her other career choice: police officer.
Devonné Franks’ two careers couldn’t be more different. “Instead of making people feel good about themselves and look beautiful, I worry if I’m going to find something on their exam,” say Franks, who works as an MRI technologist in a hospital in Lima, Ohio, and also does nails at Shear Brilliance in Delphos.
Nail tech Leah Holst attributes her cake baking and decorating skills to heredity. “My love of baking started when I was really young,” says Holst, the owner of Luxe Spa in Harriston, Ontario, Canada, as well as ~Layers~ Cakes and Confections by Leah.
Tara Deck, owner of home-based Tara Lea Esthetics in Chetwynd, British Columbia, Canada, built her own 3,600-square-foot, five-bedroom, ranch-style home on a beautiful five-acre lot.
“When I’m not doing nails you can find me taking photos,” says Kari Evich, owner of Nails by Kari, located inside Merle Norman, in Covington, Va. With a partner, she also owns a graphic design and photography business called Tayvich Photography.
Angelica Chavez, a nail tech at Hot Heads and Cool Claws in Albuquerque, N.M., is also a professional mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter.
“I started paintballing at age 10,” says Classic Mully, a nail tech at Personalities Salon in Queen Creek, Ariz.
