So for the last week and a half, we have been learning about theory and working on acrylics, gels and wraps. Before we began, I was sooo nervous. It sounded like the three of these combined were going to be the most difficult things I have ever done in life. So not true.
As we were reading our textbook about acrylics, gels, and wraps, I began to sweat a little. How was I going to get all these steps? An overlay — was I going to be able to perform it correctly? Fill-ins — will the cuticle area be too thick? Stress zones, C-Curves, tip wells and sidewalls began to consume me! But as soon as I was able to practice it on my dummy fingers, I got a rhythm and eventually I got the application together. So much that I was able to perform a wrap application on a real live client (see below)!!!
I am psyched about all three. I want to be the BEST at applying all three, so I practice on anything I can get my hands on — friends, family, dummy fingers, blocks, and even on myself.
I feel like the hardest part of the program is over — wait I spoke too soon. This week we have to test out to begin taking clients on the clinic floor. This particular test is a 2-day test, complete with performing a spa manicure with a French tip and a spa pedicure on a live model, sculptured nails on a block, overlays with acrylic, gel, and wraps, and blending nail tips.
So if you don’t hear from me for a few days, please know that I’m practicing on someone somewhere.
Off to sculpt a nail…
