There’s No Guilt With Gift Cards

Thanks Jill! We are all working very hard and it has been great to see the other spa side girls get into the contest too. I can’t wait to see the final numbers as well and to find out who won. Our guests are also excited to see who finally wins the gift basket we have been raffling off throughout this whole contest. We just have two weeks left to really increase our percentage and help fill our books for the slow time.

Selling cards has helped us to stay busy during the January/ February slow months. We find that many of our gift cards sold are redeemed during these months. Our clients are less reluctant to use their cards for add-ons or retail purchases than they would otherwise be if they were paying for it themselves. It seems to me that in January they get their holiday credit card bills, feel guilty if they spend any extra on themselves and seriously cut out the extras during these months. I find this to be true for my clients up until about a week before Valentine ’s Day. Then they start thinking about treating themselves to add-ons or need to stock up on retail and don’t feel guilty about it anymore. Gift cards have saved the day during this time for me.

We have been running a contest for the whole salon for whoever sells the most gift cards until the 16th. When we run a contest like this we have first-, second-, and third-place prizes for the most gift cards sold by dollar amount. It really helps to motivate us to remember to ask our clients if they have anyone in mind that they need a card for, or to suggest one for someone who is having trouble finding the perfect gift for a loved one. Everyone gets into it and the competition can get quite fierce (in a good way) in the back room with the girls coming in and giving their sales updates through the day. It is really fun to see them go back and forth with good natured ribbing to help keep each other motivated and focused.
