Are there certain styles of Minx I should use on clients who have ridged nails?

September 21, 2011

I’ve noticed that nail ridges can show through Minx nail coatings. Are there certain styles of Minx that I should use (or not use) on clients who have very ridged nails?

Answer

If someone has deep ridges in the nails Minx may not cover them up. In particular, Silver and Gold Lightning Minx is like spandex for the nail — it will show all imperfections. For clients who have ridged nails but like the chrome look of Gold and Silver Lightning, then suggest patterns that are still in the metallic range but that have a design that can camouflage ridges or an otherwise uneven nail plate. Some good options are the metallic fishnets, skulls, and cheetah patterns. — Naja Rickette is a Minx Master and lead trainer.

As a Tech, How Do I Keep My Own Nails Intact?

I’m in a small but busy salon. I struggle to do my own nails and to keep them looking nice — they always get filed, soaked, and scuffed. Any advice on what to use? I do acrylics, gels, and Shellac.

How Do I Learn Nail Art If No One Is Available to Teach Me?

I am an apprentice in a natural nail salon. Sometimes I get requests for nail art. I would love to learn how to do different nail designs, but I am a beginner. I live in Virginia and there are never nail seminars or lectures or even hands-on classes here. Do you have any suggestions on learning nail art designs when there is no one in my area to teach it? Watching videos is good but sometimes you just need hands-on.
