There’s good news for all you knowledge-hungry nail techs: Veteran salon owners Traci Dungan and Ami McClure are ready and willing to share all they’ve learned during their 20+ years in the nail industry. These ambitious sisters successfully grew Fort Myers, Fla.-based ProFiles Salon from a two-person operation to a thriving business with 20 techs and five new locations. Their latest endeavor, ProFiles Backstage, provides a broad variety of services designed to make a nail tech’s life easier. “We educate and mentor at all levels of skill and experience, offering management and marketing strategies as well as technical assistance,” says McClure. “We also manufacture and distribute our own line of ProFiles brand products and other brands that have become favorites in our salon.”
A monthly subscription design box, called the ProFiles Swag Box, is designed to provide inspiration and allow techs to try different products without making a huge investment. “The only way for us as nail techs to give ourselves a raise is to charge more for our services or upsell new art or techniques,” says McClure. “Our monthly swag and design how-to’s help techs feel justified and confident to do just that. Since we think like nail techs, we consider everything from product cost and durability to packaging and how to market the items.”
