Take advantage of these stressful times and cultivate your salon as the one place where technology does not invade, where being the fasters doesn’t necessarily mean being the best, and where clients can take a quick breather before getting back into the rat race.

Technology has taken over our lives. Personally, there are things about technological improvements that I love and things that I hate. For example, I hate making my own travel arrangements on the internet, although I do like to shop over the internet. I love places like lkea and Price Club, and I know that the price I pay there is why I have to bag my own purchases, but I don’t like doing it all myself (and then putting things together by myself when I get home.) I have become a bit more of a do-it-yourselfer since my divorce and find that I spend more time in Home Depot now than the grocery store. But I’ll tell you, as empowering as it is to lay down a new floor in my kitchen, doing it makes me feel all the more entitled to a salon visit for even a simple polish change.
I’m sure many of us have grown weary of the pace of life today. The flip side of being able to do everything, fast is that everyone EXPECTS things fast. It’s a burden, but in order to stay competitive in business, you have to be highly responsive. You have to not only win the race, but also set a world record doing it. Most days, I feel like I’m on a runway train, with not enough control in my life and so little leisure time. I think I’m like a lot of your clients; I like to go in the salon, have a cup of coffee, sit in a comfortable chair, and be taken care of.
So, take advantage of these stressful times and cultivate your salon as the one place where technology does not invade, where being the fasters doesn’t necessarily mean being the best, and where clients can take a quick breather before getting back into the rat race.
