They say that sex sells, but nail tech Lynnette Diaz-Madden might argue that enthusiasm sells — specifically, it sells umbrellas. The owner of Salon 29 in East Greenville, Pa., Diaz-Madden recently started hawking unusual inverted umbrellas to clients and other viewers via Facebook Live and she’s met with surprising success. “I had done a few videos before — some for nail techs and some for clients educating them about various products. My daughter told me I was a natural on the videos and that I should do more,” she says. “So when I came across the umbrellas I was intrigued and discovered no one in my area was selling them.” To make the videos, Diaz-Madden simply props her phone up on a desk or table and presses record. “It gives you three seconds to get ready before going live. I can see people come on and when they start to comment, it ruins my train of thought, but that’s the fun part of making the umbrella videos,” she says. “Then I save it for people to watch after it is done.” And her sales pitch has produced results. “The videos aren’t perfect in any sense, but I explain how the umbrellas work and tell the truth about what I believe in. I just imagine I am talking to someone at my table rather than to a large audience,” she says. “If I was excited about a product and I hired someone else to sell them, I don’t think I would have sold as many!” You can check out her videos at www.facebook.com/nailtech.
