Jennifer Lentini chose Summerland for her salon because of the laid-back, peaceful vibe.
Jennifer Lentini’s Blooming Nails is located a few miles south of Santa Barbara, Calif., in Summerland, a picturesque little community with a population of about 1,500. The salon has been in this location for the past 11 years — it was a coffee shop in its previous incarnation — and though the building shares space with several other businesses, the salon has an aura of both openness and privacy. When Lentini moved in, she knocked out the front wall and added glass doors and a deck, which infuses the salon with sunlight and opens it up to the dazzling ocean view beyond.
Everyone enjoys the stunning ocean view from the deck of the salon.
> On a recent trip up the coast to see a friend, I decided to pay Blooming Nails a visit and treat my friend to a pedicure. Lulled by the soft trickling of an indoor fountain, she was in heaven as Lentini went to work on her somewhat beat up surfer’s feet. The luxurious treatment included a warm foot bath, a scrub, and an extended foot and calf massage with soothing Cuccio products, topped off with a pretty blue OPI polish.

> Blooming Nails’ clientele are mainly women and a few men who come from nearby Montecito and Santa Barbara, and Summerland locals. The salon’s main services are regular manicures and pedicures and a lot of acrylics. Lentini is the sole proprietor and has also been the only nail tech for most of the 11 years she has been in business. ” I found that having another tech and multiple clients here was just too distracting in this small space,” she says. “My clients are mostly women who are looking for a more private, quiet, and relaxing experience.”
Bright sunlight and ocean breezes flood the small but airy space.
Simple décor such as scented candles, mirrors, and a fountain lend a peaceful feel to Blooming Nails.
> Blooming Nails is open Monday through Friday by appointment only and charges $30 for a manicure, $45 for a pedicure, $35 for gel-polish, and $45 for a set of acrylics.
