What do you do when you’ve got 70 essays to read, all written by children in need of a computer? If you’re OPI president and CEO George Schaeffer, you’ll make sure every child gets one. For the second time in the company’s history, Schaefer gave out computers to OPI employees’ children. But that wasn’t all. Nine high school seniors were also awarded $1,000 scholarships, which will help them in their continuing education endeavors. And since it’s OPI, the giveaway had to be done the OP way, filled with fun and fanfare. The event was held at the company’s headquarters, where Los Angeles mayor James Hahn spoke about the value of education. A member of the Tony-award-winning “Hairspray” cast entertained the crown with her vocals skills and well known Mexican actor Eduardo Yañez also made an appearance.

This isn’t the first time OPI has reached out to its employees. The company hosted a similar giveaway two years ago, awarding computers to 40 children it’s all part of the Schaeffer Family Foundation, a philanthropic program established to assist OPI employees in providing their children with education and financial resources “Technology is an effective learning tool,” says Schaeffer. “It is important for me to provide these children with the educational and financial resources. “Technology is an effective learning tool,”says Schaeffer. “It is important for me to provide these children with the educational resources necessary to make their way into our competitive world.”
