New from Backscratchers Salon Systems, Herbal Synergy Nail and Cuticle Enhancer combines oregano oil, tea tree oil, and cinnamon oil to create a natural, powerful agent that attacks nail fungus. Nails affected by fungus — also known as onychomycosis — can become discolored, cloudy, yellow, or brittle and they tend to thicken as the infection grows. Herbal Synergy was compounded exclusively for Backscratchers by cosmetic chemist, Dr. Peter Pugliese.

A study from the Department of Horticulture and National Food Safety and Toxicology center at Michigan State University discovered a substance called carvacrol has antifungal properties. Carvacrol is the active ingredient found in oregano oil. Tea tree contains terpen-4-ol, a natural killer of dermatophytes, and demonstrates antiseptic and antifungal properties. Due to its antifungal, antibacterial, antiviral, and antiseptic properties, cinnamon is extremely powerful and effective on external infections, says the company.
