Janice Reams of Nails, Please! in Houston, Texas, has devised a simple system to keep vital client information organized and close at hand, and, at the same time, demonstrate her commitment to client safety. Reams provides each of her clients with her own “personal care bag” — a bag containing her private butlers and files. On the label area, she writes the clients full name, home and business phone numbers, and birthday, beams explains: “I have four large plastic tubs — one for each day of the week I work. I sort the bags according to the day of the client’s next appointment. At the beginning of my day, I arrange the bags according to my schedule, and all the tools and information I need for the day are within arm’s reach.” If a client is traveling, Roams gives her the bag for use at the out-of-town salon. If the client plans to tend her own nails while away, she’ll fill her bag with a few “911” articles like extra tips, nail glue, and matching polish for touch-ups. “My customers are pleased to know that safety and sanitation practices are as important to me as to them,” says Reams.
