Tip of the Month: Leave Your Business Card with Restaurant Tips

An interesting tip for attracting new clients appeared not too long ago on the Internet’s NAILTECH Mailing List, and its author, Beth Hamm, owner of Perfect Pinkies in Naples Fla., gave us permission to share it with you. “I am a booth renter in hairdresser Deanna Mayfield’s salon Cuts R’Us,” writes Hamm.

“When Deanna and her husband go out to eat, they leave a cash tip for the waiter, as well as a business card with a note on the back entitling the waiter to one free haircut.” Since Mayfield started this practice many years ago, she has successfully brought a number of long-term clients on board. Hamm decided to try it and has gained one new client so far. She also has a card trick of her own to offer. Hamm makes her own business cards, all basically identical except that the name of the salon is printed in black on most cards and in white on a few. On the back of most of the cards is a place for die client’s next appointment time and some business policies. A select few have something a little different on the back — a note urging the holder to look at the face of the card. If the name “Perfect Pinkies” is black, they are entitled to $5 off any service. If the name is white, they are entitled to $10 off any service. “I leave these cards with friends who own or run businesses to distribute to their customers,” explains Hamm. “I suggest that friends give the white cards to patrons who seem to be likely candidates for regular nail care.”
