Mother’s Day offers the perfect opportunity to expand your business using the power of gift certificates, says Mary Kennebeck, marketing partner for Action Bag & Display. Here are her tips:

Give mom a choice. Put together Day of Beauty packages at three different price levels. That will make it easy and convenient for customers to select the right package for mom.

Let service and retail combos do double duty. Use your gift certificate program to build both your service and retail business. Wrap each gift certificate with at least two retail products that are built into the price. (The products’ value should correspond to the price of the gift certificate.)

Spread the word. Make sure your complete gift certificate presentation, including box and gift wrap, is readily visible to your clients throughout the salon. Create displays for the front window, the reception area, all the nail and hair stations, and especially the restrooms and changing area.

Create an experience to be shared. Offer mother-daughter manicure or pedicure gift certificates that include complimentary products wrapped in bright or clear paper and tied with a ribbon. You can even build in lunch for two at a local restaurant as an option.
