Week 6: Parlez Vous Français?

This week’s challenge is sponsored by Orly, whose founder Jeff Pink created the French manicure in 1978 to satisfy the needs of television and film actresses in Hollywood. We challenged our Top 7 to reinvent the French manicure by giving it a twist.

At the time when Pink created the French manicure, there were no quick dry options and actresses changed nail colors as often as they changed costumes. This now iconic look for nails went from business to casual to evening. The new nail style went with everything, making it highly versatile. Staying with these core ideals, we challenged our contestants to reinvent the French manicure by giving it a twist. They were told the look should still be versatile and it should be able to go from day to evening or from casual to formal. They were asked to create a natural nail look on two hands using polish, gel-polish, or paints, but no acrylics or traditional gels.

We also asked them to shoot their reinvented French with daytime and nighttime props so you could really get a feel for how versatile the looks are.

Our judges will be looking over the entries and scoring our top designs and our least favorite designs. We also want to know what you have to say. Vote for your favorite artist to make sure they stay in the competition. (You can vote one time per contestant each week.)

Voting will be open until Wednesday, October 23 at noon PST. We’ll announce the results of Week #6’s challenge (the winner and who is eliminated) on Friday, October 25.
