Aprés Nail, creator of the Gel-X® system, was spotted all throughout the Oscars and afterparties on Sunday night. Worn by several nominees like Danielle Brooks and Lily Gladstone, Aprés and these celebrities' nail artists teamed up to kill it on the red carpet. See below for photos of the glam looks, as well as breakdowns so that you can recreate them on your clients.

Danielle Brooks

Breakdown:

  1. Prep all nails with a dry or hot towel for manicure.
  2. Pre-size the Gel-X Sculpted Almond Extra Long Tips, making sure each nail fits sidewall to sidewall.
  3. Wipe nail clean with alcohol prep.
  4. Apply pH Bonder to all nails
  5. Apply one coat of Extend Gel to all 10 natural nails. Cure for 30 seconds with Alpha 2-in-1 LED Lamp.
  6. Scrub Non-Acidic Gel Primer on each nail underside, allowing for it to get tacky.
  7. Apply Extend Gel underside, angle 45 degrees, from the cuticle and cure for 5-10 seconds. Full cure all nails for 30 seconds.
  8. Cut, shape and buff nails.
  9. Apply Aprés Base Gel.
  10. One coat of Aprés Gel Couleur in Spring Sigh.

 Swarovski French Nails:

  1. Apply French style one coat color using Aprés Gel Couleur in New Year Wishes mixed with loose silver glitter. Cure for 30 seconds in Beta LED Lamp.
  2. Apply one coat of Non-Wipe Glossy Top Gelcoat. Cure for 30 seconds.
  3. Now you can bling it out!
  4. Final step is to apply Non-Wipe Glossy Top Gelcoat only around the tip edge of the nails. Do not apply on the crystals. Cure for 30 seconds in Beta LED Lamp.

Lily Gladstone

Breakdown:

  1. File and lightly buff the nail. Then, after fitting the Gel-X Tip to the nail, apply a thin coat of pH Bonder followed by Primer.
  2. Using Gel-X Prep, apply a small amount on the inside of the Neutrals Gel-X Whitney Natural Stiletto Short Tips, focusing only on the area that will be placed on the nail plate.
  3. Apply a thin layer of Extend Gel over the nail plate. Cure for 30 seconds under LED light or for one minute under a UV light.
  4. Apply a small bead of Extend Gel on the filed area of the Gel-X Tip. Make sure to cover the entire filed area.
  5. Place the tip on the nail, with a 45 degree angle, starting at the cuticle area. Push the tip down slightly towards the free edge to smooth out the Extend Gel. Use the flashlight to cure the tip for 10 seconds. (After applying all 10 tips, cure the whole hand for 30 seconds under an LED light or for one minute under a UV light). 
  6. Apply a thin layer of Non-Wipe Glossy Gel Topcoat and cure for 30 seconds and then apply some silver chrome powder with a sponge tip.
  7. After dusting off, apply another layer of Non-Wipe Glossy Gel Topcoat to finish the look.

Sandra Huller

Breakdown:

  1. Prep the natural nails.
  2. Size Natural Almond Medium Gel-X Tips, etch the back of the tips, and apply Primer.
  3. Cleanse the natural nails and apply pH Bonder and Primer.
  4. Apply one thin coat of Builder Gel on the nails, cure for 30 secs with the Alpha 2-IN-1 LED Nail Lamp.
  5. Apply Builder Gel on the back of the Gel-X Tips, press onto the nails, then cure with flash light for 10 secs. Repeat the process for all the nails.
  6. Cure all of the nails with Alpha 2-IN-1 LED Nail Lamp for 45 secs.
  7. Blend the cuticle line and back of the Gel-X Tip using a corn bit, then put a mixture of Forgotten Film and Baby’s Breath on the free edge from the back of the tips for a super natural look.
  8. Buff the surface of the Gel-X Tips, then apply one coat of Forgotten Film.
  9. Finish with Top Gelcoat for high shine.

Greta Lee

Breakdown:

  1. Shape the nails, buff them, remove oil, and dust from the nail beds using alcohol.
  2. Apply pH Bonder.
  3. Apply Non-Acidic Gel Primer.
  4. Base Gelcoat and Cure with Alpha 2-in-1 LED Nail Lamp.
  5. One coat of Forgotten Film and cure.
  6. Top Gelcoat and cure.

Saweetie

Breakdown:

  1. Shape nails to perfection.
  2. Apply one coat of Base Coat.
  3. Apply two coats of Spring Sigh. Cure each coat in Beta LED Lamp for 30 seconds.
  4. Apply one coat of Non-Wipe Glossy Top Gelcoat. Cure for 30 seconds.
  5. Bling it out with Swarovski crystal drip.
  6. Add the final coat of Non-Wipe Top Gelcoat around the crystals and not on top. Cure for 30 seconds in the Beta LED Lamp.

Kerry Washington

Breakdown:

  1. Trim down Gel-X Stiletto Medium Tips and file to slightly more rounded ends.
  2. Apply two coats of Aprés Gel Couleur in Forgotten Film.
  3. Mix Base Gelcoat X with shade Winter Aurora. Apply this mixture to the bottom half of the nails.
  4. Mix Base Gelcoat X with shade New Year Wishes. Apply this mixture to the tip of the nails, making sure to blend the glitters to create a gradient.
  5. Using a craft store chunky glitter. Apply this throughout the nail, concentrating more glitter at the tips.
  6. Use Extend Gel to adhere rhinestones to the nails.
  7. Finish off with Non-Wipe Glossy Top Gelcoat to ensure maximum shine.

Breakdown:

  1. Shape the nail. (We chose Jen’s favorite Gel-X Natural Medium Almond shape)
  2. Start by applying one coat of Base Coat. Cure for 30 seconds.
  3. Apply two thin coats of Aprés Gel Couleur Spring Sigh. Cure each coat for 30 seconds.
  4. Apply two coats of French Black with a fine detail brush to create a slant French design.
  5. Add gold foil to create dimension.
  6. Add two thin coats of Non-Wipe Glossy Top Gelcoat. Cure for 30 seconds each.
