National educator for Art Club and Color Club, Mare Horak explains how she keeps embellishments on natural nail clients.

“Embedding is great, but there will always be die-hard polish clients. These are the clients that you want to up-sell to nail art. The trick is to get embellishments to stay on longer than a couple of days using polish only.

When adding embellishments such as bullion, ice (mylar), gems, or dried flowers to polish, always remember a few little things to extend the life of your artwork:

Make sure your polish is dry to the touch, and use nail glue to attach the embellishment to the polished nail. A plastic cuticle pusher works great to press the embellishment firmly to the surface of the nail. Also, use Art Club Sealer instead of your regular top coat. Art Club Sealer is thicker than a regular top coat and will hold your artwork in place longer. If I add an embellishment to a polished nail, I remind my clients to add another coat of Sealer in three to four days to aid in the staying power of their artwork. This can also be a great way to add a retail sale to your service.”
