Shrink-Wrap for Your Nails?

by NAILS Magazine | October 14, 2008 | Bookmark +

So have any of your tried Minx nail coatings yet? We used the brand new product on our February anniversary cover. (Tom Bachik did the nails.) It’s kind of like shrink-wrapping your client’s nails. The colors and patterns come in nail-shaped templates with an adhesive backing. After fitting them to the nails, you use a heat source to affix them to the nail. It’s pretty cool because the client doesn’t have to wait for them to dry or worry about chipping their polish. (They are removed using the a heat source as well.) The owner developed the technology after working at a vehicle graphics company.

There’s a salon up in Hollywood that has been using the coatings on about 40% of its clients. Naja Rickette, owner of Extremedys2012 Hand & Foot Spa, charges twice what she normally would for her services ($55 for a Minx-acure and $80 for a Minx pedi). And she’s been working the press to get the word out. In addition to a piece in our November issue, Naja also got coverage in last Sunday’s Los Angeles Times.

I think I’m going to make an appointment with Naja to see how it all works. (The company says, it can last up to five weeks.) Has anyone else tried this cool new product? What do you guys think about a shrink-wrapped nail coating?
