Pedi Under the Stars

by NAILS Magazine | August 23, 2010 | Bookmark +

Even if you work in a salon in a big city, where the stars are blocked out by the city lights, you can still create the illusion of a relaxing outdoor retreat within your pedicure room. At Spa Touch in Orlando, owner Karen New says, “Come on in and enjoy a pedicure under the stars. I have this fantastic light that projects a star field on the ceiling. It is designed to totally relax you, and I have also noticed that when people walk by the room for other services, they are peeking in.”

New discovered the star-projection light (frequently called a “star laser” and made by several different manufacturers) during a visit to a message therapist who had a similar light in her room. “I felt so relaxed after my session that I said ‘I want one of these,’” New says. Chain store Spencer’s frequently stocks the star lasers, as do several online vendors like Amazon.com. The light costs about $100. Check out a YouTube video of a typical star projection here.
