Blueprint of a First Year

Extra, Extra: Read All About It

I placed an ad in the local paper for January. I also have signed on with a local magazine to do an ad. My goal is to get the word out. In the ads, I offered 20% off any service for new clients. I have come to the conclusion that if potential clients don’t know I exist, how will they show up? My new business cards, fliers, and appointments cards have been delivered also.

The retail display is in the process of being set up. I have decided to retail Color Me Beautiful products in the salon. The company caters not only to direct sales representatives, but also to salons, as they offer great products for salons to display and demonstrate on clients. I’m putting together a small retail space for my clients.

I have not been able to find another nail tech yet. So I asked my children and my niece to help me hand out fliers and holiday gift bags; as a trade off they asked me for pedicures and manicures. For the work these Little Helpers put in this past week it was worth it. I was approached by teachers at their schools who told me the Little Helpers have been telling everyone about the salon. Word of mouth is the key to our success. I have ordered us all T-shirts for Christmas with the salon name on it. I love the fact that they are so proud to be a part of the salon.

The new year is almost here. This is a great time for me to set up new goals. My goal last year was to open my own salon and I can honestly say I did it. So much has happened this year that if you would have told me a year ago I would not have believed you. I was able to open the salon, blog about it here, and more. I just know that all it takes is a dream and a little faith and look what happens. I am thankful for the NAILS Magazine staff and for you, the awesome blog readers. I know the new year holds some great new salons from our readers and great success for Melodie and me. Let me know your business goals for 2011. I will publish mine in the next post. Merry Nails to everyone!
