Poison Ivy Means No School, But More Practice

by NAILS Magazine | August 16, 2011 | Bookmark +

This week I had a lot of time on my hands. I experimented with CND acrylics and Shellac. I arrived at school on Tuesday and had my theory class over Chapter 9: Nail Diseases and Disorders. Wow, that’s a lot of material. I have poison ivy on my hand — my thumb to be exact — and the instructor informed me that I can’t be in the school until it is gone. I begged to stay, stating that I would wear non-latex gloves, but was told this puts the clients and other students at risk. So I was only able to attend school one day.

The week was pretty boring — a lot of study time for diseases and disorders, and some much-needed quality time with my daughter Bella. Actually, it was kind of like a vacation and I got to play around with my CND UV light.

I used CND grey and clear powders to do this French manicure.

First I did an acrylic overlay on my toes with CND white and clear powders. Then I applied CND Shellac French Tutti Frutti and Mother of Pear

I also took time to catch up on fall trends. It looks like grey is the new black. I found some CND forms and liquid and powders too. My goal was to sculpt a grey square tip. Using the white monomer I took a chance and added black powder eye shadow to get my grey — it worked! I went over the acrylic set with CND Shellac Mother of Pearl to add sparkle to the manicure. Goodbye summer, hello fall. My poison ivy on my thumb is gone and I can’t wait to get back today. I miss my clients. SNAP to CND for a fun week!
