Accent Toe?

Right now my clients are loving the “accent nail” look — which they all seem to think of as “the new thing” even though it was SO the hotness back in the late ’80s/early ’90’s when I started this game... lol! Some days I love the whole everything-old-is-new-again cycle of things, some days I am so over it.

Last week I had a new client come in for a set of rockstar toenails. She picked some bright pink and turquoise glitters. Today she was back for her set of rockstar fingernails and picked something totally different for her nails. Well, she did decide to incorporate that same hot pink— but just on her ring fingers. Overall, her nails do not match her toes now. She says her hubby told her her toenails look like a baby shower.

So, before she left this afternoon, we scheduled her for her next fill appointment, and she also opted to come back in just a few days to redo her tootsies. She wanted them to match the nails.

So we laughed about how much her hubby will like the current toes when he sees the credit card statement for the new ones, and we bade our fond farewells.

As I cleaned up after she left, I put the glitter we used today on her nails back on the shelf and made a mental note of which ones they were so I can mix them up again for her toes in a couple of days... which is when the thought crossed my mind, “Will we still do accent nails in the pink?”

I envisioned what that would look like. Naturally, in my vision, I thought of the big toes in pink with the rest in the silver. Then I thought to myself, “Huh. That’s weird. Why is the big toe the accent nail for toes? Why not one of the other toes?” So I tried to envision a set of toes with the second toe as the accent nails — no no no! That just looks silly!

I wonder why? Why don’t we do accent toes?

Or maybe “we” do? Maybe it’s just not a local thing? I guess I’ll have to start paying more attention, but it just doesn’t seem the norm.
