Stamping Technique

I've been getting questioned so often about the nail stamping technique that I finally had to get some personal experience in order to be better able to help you. The stamping has actually been around for quite a while! It actually started in the consumer arena to help the DIY-er avoid the salon and do fun things at home. I remember seeing the sets sold at the state fair before I even considered a career in nails. A friend of mine has been using a kit at home for as long as I've known her! At some point, the stamping process has become a curiosity for the nail professional as an easy service add-on that can give a detailed design without the usual time commitment such a design would normally entail.

The most common question is which products to use. This is really a lot of trial and error. I suggest playing around with plates at a networking event or class if at all possible to get a feel for what you might like. I worked with Anne Clarizio, an education ambassador with CND who gave me some pointers on technique and the plates. Her favorite plates were Konad and Bundle Monster. She explained that the preference was due to the fact that a lot of knock off or extremely cheap plates tended to not have a deep enough cut to the design for there to be pick up and transfer. Like a lot of you, I'm pretty budget-conscious about my nail toys, so in pricing the two, I found Bundle Monster to be the more affordable option. I'm also a little funny about storage for my nail goodies, so I love that Bundle Monster has a handy folio that keeps the plates handy for storage or travel and easy to view.





The stamper itself is again a personal preference, so I ordered two different styles: the original one from Konad (Bundle Monster doesn't make a stamper) and a generic one I found on Amazon. I have to say that having both has been a plus as each is good for different things. My BFF Mel, who runs Tips of the Trade, discovered that thoroughly cleaning the plate between stamps makes life easier and you want to be sure to clean the stamper and plate with something really lint-free like a Soft Landing square or something.
