Nail Professionals Take On ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

by Beth Livesay | September 2, 2014 | Bookmark +

Unless you’ve been living under a rock lately, you have probably heard of the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. The ALS Association is the only national non-profit fighting Lou Gherig’s Disease on every front. The challenge put forth calls for people to donate to ALS and have a bucket of ice water poured over their head. They then nominate others to take part in the challenge. The nominee has 24 hours to comply. Videos of the challenge are then posted to social media using #icebucketchallenge, #alsicebucketchallenge, and #strikeoutals.

As of August 29, over $100 million in donations have come in from people all over the globe thanks to this challenge. (Last year, the organization only received $2.8 million in donations over the same period.) The use of social media and the involvement of several celebrities have made donating to ALS a pop culture phenomenon.

We at NAILS were overjoyed to see that so many of our friends took part in this challenge in an effort to raise awareness for ALS and in turn raise money for the cause. Here are some of the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge participants from the nail world.

Gelish Founder and CEO Danny Haile definitely committed, with not one but two buckets of ice water being poured over him. He in turn challenged Tony Cuccio and Cary Robinson. Click here to see his video.

INM also accepted the challenge, and in return called out Elaine Watson, David Anthony, and Lysa Comfort. Watch their video here.

David Anthony of Valentino Beauty Pure accepted the challenge from INM and passed the torch to fellow nail peeps Linda Nordstrom, Mindy Hardy, Athena Elliott, and Kandi Banks. Watch Anthony’s challenge here.

We have to give kudos to “black diamond king” Azature for being considerate of California’s draught. The man behind the world’s most expensive nail polish used champagne instead of water to complete his challenge. And he carried it out all while wearing some fabulous diamond rings too. He in turn challenged nail icon Kelly Osbourne among others. Click here to see his stylish take on this challenge.

The entire crew from Nail Talk Radio even took part. Watch Braden Jahr, Ellen Torchia, and Athena Elliott complete their challenges.

Celebrity nail stylist Adam Tran took part and challenged his fellow nail artists.

Kathy Weltman of Soft Landings Towels accepted the challenge from Nail Talk Radio. See her video here.

Individual nail techs also took part. Here is the video from Sukie Dieu of Indianapolis taking the challenge.
