New York Fashion Week is long gone but the nail designs presented on the runway still linger. Taking cues from the looks that graced the talons of high fashion models and executed by the industry’s finest, I was inspired to create a set of nails that incorporated the trendiest concepts: gold, matte, and geometric shapes.
Geometric nail art reigned supreme at Wes Gordon’s show when Essie’s nailistas adorned nails with a perfect purple rectangle over a gray shade. The look was topped with a matte finish—a second nail trend spotted on the runway. The OPI nail team led by Miss Pop Nails played favorites with its Matte Top Coat and nails with a velvet finish were seen at BCBGMAXAZRIA and Marissa Webb’s shows, among others. To up the ante on manicures, bold creams were paired with a pop of metallic at DEGEN by China Glaze. Riding the metallic wave, Essie proved gold is new the black at Delpozo and Nanette Lepore.

To incorporate the trends on one cohesive set, I used two green shades in Cuccio Colour Glasgow Nights and Floss Gloss Moon Baby, a metallic in Color Club Gold Chrome, and China Glaze Matte Magic to remove the shine. I mixed and matched the colors and added half-circles and thick stripes to get the graphic shapes to pop. My NYFW-inspired set received a nod of approval when China Glaze took to Instagram to share their favorite designs created by fans in their CG Clique and included my nails in the round up.
