Week 16: Prevailing Through Ups and Downs

Even though my first client was a no show, I was able to do a sculpted full set with gel-polish and glitter for a classmate.

Remember that excited feeling you had on the first day of school and your vision of what you want to be when you’re finished? As the time goes on and it gets a little harder to keep up with all the different facets of life, don’t ever let the thought of giving up slip into your mind.

There are days where I feel like I’m on autopilot and I’m just making it through the day, but we can’t forget what we’re fighting for. It seems like this week was a little tough but I fought my way through it. Your point of view makes the difference. Monday came fast and I was ready for my full set appointment, which was made by the school. Unfortunately, the client was a no show, but I reminded myself to just move on. I gave her about 20 minutes and finally I realized she wasn’t coming. I grabbed a cosmotology student who wanted a full set. Time is valuable and we have to use it wisely. I try to use every opportunity that comes my way to learn and practice.I was able to complete another sculpted full set with gel-polish, only this time I added glitter! Glitter makes everything beautiful.

On Tuesday I had a chance to give a spa pedicure to a lovely young lady who came with her mother and older sister. They’ve been to the school before for pedicures and manicures. Unfortunately, the gel manicures didn’t last, so they decided to only get pedicures this time.

After learning this I was determined to convince them to come back. I talked to her about the nail service she received before and learned that the gel-polish was on the skin and the nail was not prepped properly. She loved her pedicure and told her mom that she wanted to come back so I can do her nails. I wasn’t able to get a picture of her pedicure because she had to leave for dance class but I was able to give her my business card! Hopefully I’ll be seeing her soon.

On our class day, we had our weekly test, but this one was our final! I was a little stressed because I wasn’t able to study as much as I wanted to because of work. Despite my concerns, I aced it with a beautiful 98%.

After that, our assignment was to complete 20 nails: 10 single-color overlay hard gels and 10 multi-color sculpted hard gels. We weren’t sure if we would be able to finish in time but the pressure was on, and we were all able to rise to the occasion. The nails didn’t come out as cute as I know I'm capable of, but they weren’t too bad either.

We also worked on some multi colored acrylics. This is an ombré and a smoke look.

At the end of the week, I had a client for a steamed pedicure and gel manicure. I was so thankful to have had such a great client. She was easy to talk to and so sweet. We talked about our kids and how hard life can be. She encouraged me to keep pushing and that I was in the right field to make a difference. She also loved her services so much that she scheduled another appointment with me.

My last client of the week and I got along great. This is the gel manicure I did for her.

God is so good! It’s been so hard lately but He’s been showing me that my hard work is paying off. Never give up on doing what’s right! In the right time you will be rewarded. Every day is a new day, a new chance to make a difference. Even if you’re not too happy with your circumstances, remember that it’s only temporary. Take advantage of every moment you have, give it your all and make a difference.

Love,

Jojo
