Black-and-white and metallic are two of the trendiest fall nail looks. Lexi Kumasaka, a nail tech at Beverly Hills, Calif.’s Chi Nail Bar and sister salon Ki Nail Bar in Los Angeles, fuses the two styles together in these Joker Nails. To recreate this design in your salon, use a ballpoint nail art tool (with a tiny amount of base coat on the tip for stickiness) or tweezers to pick up the studs, Kumasaka advises. She also says different shapes of studs can be applied to create a funkier look and, for clients with smaller nail beds, switch to a smaller embellishment size.

1. Apply two layers of white gel-polish over the entire nail, curing between each coat.

2. Create a vertical black gel-polish line down the middle so you have a guideline to follow when you apply the black gel polish on the lefthand side.

3. Apply black gel-polish evenly and smoothly on the lefthand side (while following the guideline). Cure. Apply a second coat, if needed, and cure.

4. Apply a vertical clear gel-polish line down the middle as a guide. Apply square studs tilted so they are diamond-shaped along the clear line. Cure.
