On behalf of the brand’s socially conscious spa and salon partners, SpaRitual has purchased 5,000 trees to be planted in India through a donation to Trees for the Future, which benefits people living on threatened lands. Their contribution will directly benefit the regions of Tamil Nadu — hit hardest by the devastating 2004 tsunami — and Andhra Pradesh, a region suffering from an epidemic of farmer suicides caused by prolonged droughts and lost crops.

Trees for the Future focuses on agroforestry, which involves integrating trees into agriculture. It is a particularly appropriate resource for poor farmers in developing countries, as these trees can improve the fertility of their lands, prevent wind and soil erosion, increase water penetration into underground aquifers, provide fodder for animals, create living fences, and also provide sustainable fuelwood production.

“With each purchase of SpaRitual products, consumers are making a choice that directly and positively benefits the planet,” says company founder Shel Pink. “As a brand, we are passionate about safeguarding the environment, reducing waste, and limiting the use of non-renewable resources.”
